2/8 – Read Chapter 2 “Understanding Ethical and Legal Issues Related to Social Media” (17-39)
2/10 – Read Chapter 20: “Writing Definitions” (533-551); Introduce Technical Description Assignment

Week 3
2/15 – No Class
2/17 – Before class, choose an object, mechanism, or process that you want to write about in your Technical Description assignment. If possible, bring the object or share a photograph of the object, mechanism, or process to share with the class

Week 4
2/22 – Read Chapter 3 “Writing Technical Documents” (41-56); Technical Description terms and why
2/24 – Technical Description First Draft Due. Submit a hard copy for class; Peer Review.

Week 5
3/1 – Descriptive Writing Workshop
3/3 – Technical Description Final Draft Due; Introduce Digital Portfolio and Self-Assessment Assignment; Work on Portfolio

Week 6
3/8 – Read selection from Chapter 14: “Writing Memos” (372-374); Introduce Memo Assignment; Memo topics and research strategies
3/10 – Read Chapter 5: “Analyzing Your Audience and Purpose” (84-111)

3/15 – Memo First Draft. Bring a hard copy to class; Peer Review.
3/17 – Read Chapter 6: “Researching Your Subject” (114-143)

Week 8
3/22 – Memo Final Draft Due; Read Chapter 19: “Writing Lab Reports” (515-532); Introduce Lab Report
3/24 – Read Chapter 9: “Emphasizing Important Information” (192-212); Focus research information.

4/5 – Lab Report First Draft Due. Peer Review.
4/7 – Examples of Lab Reports; Utilizing research methods

Week 10
4/12 – Read Chapter 16: “Writing Proposals” (419-443); Introduce Engineering Proposal
4/14 – Read Chapter 4: “Writing Collaboratively” (57-77); Create Engineering teams

Week 11
4/19 – Lab Report Final Draft due. Read Chapter 17: “Writing Informational Reports”; Organizing timelines
4/21 – Transitioning Lab Report to Engineering Proposal; Engaging an Audience with proposals. Post team progress report by Friday.

Week 12
4/26 – Working with Purpose/Audience
4/28 – Go over Portfolio/Self-assessment; Post team progress report by Friday

Week 13
5/3 – Engineering Proposal First Draft Due. Read Chapter 21: “Making Oral Presentations” (576-601); Create presentation schedule
